Restore your smile and prevent tooth decay at Kardynal Dental, a family-owned and -operated dental office. We have over 35 years of experience providing dental restoration solutions, including dental fillings to our neighbors in Shelby Township, MI.
Dental fillings are used to treat dental caries (cavities) caused by tooth decay, fix minor tooth chips, and seal small cracks in the teeth. They’re an essential tool in restorative and preventive dental care because they restore the form and function of the natural tooth while preventing further decay from impacting the treatment area.
Kardynal Dental offers two primary options for tooth fillings, and we always recommend materials based on patient preference and pre-existing health conditions, including sensitivities and allergies.
Our process always starts with intake questions. When you request an appointment at Kardynal Dental, our receptionist will ask you a few questions primarily to help us understand potential stressors—our goal is to create a positive experience for you.
After your appointment is scheduled, we’ll send your new patient forms to you via text. For a speedier check-in process, we do recommend filling these intake forms out beforehand.
On the day of the appointment, please make sure you bring your insurance card and ID with you. Your appointment will begin with a patient consultation and examination. During your examination, our dental care team will assess your oral health and discuss the symptoms you’ve been experiencing.
If our examinations and/or X-rays reveal a cavity, chipped tooth, or fractured tooth, we will discuss available treatment options, recommend a course of action based on your goals, personal preferences, and health conditions, and answer any questions you have.
Everyone’s pain tolerance level is different. Our dental care team always takes steps to minimize discomfort and alleviate any anxiety. We’re committed to providing comfortable, pain-free care.
They can! Dental fillings made of resin composite and porcelain are colored to match the patient's tooth to deliver a seamless, natural look.
In their earliest stages, cavities often have no symptoms. If cavities are allowed to progress, you may notice the following:
If you notice any of these signs, we recommend scheduling an appointment with us as soon as possible before the decay worsens.
Most dental insurance policies include at least some coverage for dental fillings, as they are considered a medically necessary treatment. However, coverage can differ based on the plan and the type of dental filling you receive. Our office team can help you navigate your dental insurance policy to better understand the coverage and potential out-of-pocket costs to anticipate.
We want to make sure you get the care you need without the financial stress. We offer flexible payment plans through CareCredit. Please contact our office for more information.
Tooth fillings can last anywhere from a few to 20+ years, depending on the material used, their location, and if they’ve been properly cared for.
Caring for your teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and bi-annual dental visits, as well as avoiding chewing on hard objects, will help prolong the integrity of your fillings.
Failing to get a cavity filled means that tooth decay will continue to progress. Left to advance, this can lead to the exposure of the interior of the tooth and a subsequent bacterial infection of the tooth's pulp. Once it’s reached this stage, a more invasive treatment plan is required, including root canal therapy and a dental crown or extraction.
You may experience some sensitivity and a little soreness, with most patients experiencing no post-op discomfort. Our dental care team will always discuss treatment expectations and aftercare steps with you, including pain management, what not to eat, and when it's safe to start eating and drinking normally after the procedure.
